The Facilities of Wolf Center A
Display Enclosures - Red Rain Exhibit
We currently have one main enclosure for our Red Wolves, called the Red Rain Enclosure, which is also the Red Wolf exhibit that is viewed by the public. The enclosure is large and naturalistic, with plenty of room for more additions. If we add another species to Wolf Center A, we will make an enclosure that they can be viewed in as well.
Main Enclosures
As needed, we will be building other large enclosures to house separate packs of wolves.
Rearing Enclosures
As needed, we will build enclosures to raise wolves for release. When pups are born, we will take most of them to hand-raised. Some will be kept, and some will be sold. But we will leave a few with their parents, and they will receive less human contact. When they are old enough, they will be put in their own enclosure and will receive even less contact. They will also be introduced to live prey to develop hunting skills. When the time comes, these animals will be bred with similarly feral animals. These offspring will be raised by their own parents, taught to hunt by them, and will receive little to no human contact. They will be evaluated and, if possible, released. The enclosures in which this process takes place will be known as rearing enclosures. We currently have no rearing enclosures for our Red Wolves.
Prey Enclosures
Here at SSC HQ, we raise and breed our animals' food ourselves. We also try to feed them as naturalistic prey as possible, to help further education and ease the process of rearing for release. As such, our Red Wolf area has an enclosure which houses a herd of bison. We also have a smaller nursery enclosure. Females are moved here once it is discovered that they are pregnant, and stay until their calves have matured.
